How to Get Rid of Discouragement?

Discouragement is an unpleasant feeling that takes the fun out of activities and interests we enjoy. This emotional response is common to events that occur in ways other than our expectations and make work, household chores, and any other activities extremely tiring overnight.

As discouragement increases, the lesser our disposition. We start not focusing on conversations and make mistakes because of inattention or because we don't care about the end result.

This feeling appears as a result of the growing dissatisfaction with something, be it a professional objective, personal project, family conflicts, among other factors. It is a response to our lack of interest and satisfaction with life and can feel sadness, frustration, stress, lack of perspective, laziness and other feelings that lead to stagnation, making it increasingly difficult to get rid of it.

Discouragement is also a warning sign for depression, which is why it deserves to be investigated: A discouraged person finds himself unhappy for no apparent reason. Her life remains as it always was, nothing has changed, but suddenly she lost heart about life and a series of negative events and unpleasant thoughts, accumulated stress, constant worry, low self-esteem and harmful habits became part of her.

Some attitudes can help to alleviate this feeling, such as:

Strengthen self-love: When we think well of ourselves, take better care of ourselves, and find purpose in fighting thoughts that aim to discourage us, we are helping to lessen the feeling of discouragement;
Make short, medium and long term plans, remembering that they must be realistic, to avoid further frustration;
Taking care of physical health: A good diet, peaceful sleep and physical exercise give that extra energy needed to resume activities with more energy;
Give yourself a reward: It doesn't have to be anything exorbitant. For small goals and accomplished activities, treat yourself to moments of pleasure;
Seek Self-Awareness: Knowing more about yourself helps identify the reasons behind discouragement and can be helpful in finding tools to overcome it. When in doubt, count on the professional support of psychologists.
